Instructor Profile - Sensei Gunter Blancke, 7th Dan
"Karate and people are my life"
Sensei Gunther Blancke was literally born into the world of karate, taking his first steps across the wooden floor of his father's dojo, Master Maurice Blancke. From an early age Gunther started his tuition, first remembering as a 7 year old practising against the punching bags and trying to emulate his father's lightning fast hand combinations and moves.
"My father's technique and skill was something to behold. It made a great impression on me when I was so young, and I couldn't wait to get better at it myself. So I started practising and trying and, over time, I could see it was happening for me. And along the way, I was able to learn all of the many important things that karate can teach - strength, discipline, confidence and I hope, like my father, a kind way with people".
Gunther's abilities and love for the martial art saw him progress in many gradings and tournaments, winning national titles in Belgium at an early age. He trained and instructed in the United States for nearly 10 years before returning back to home to continue the work of his father.
In March 2024, Sensei was awarded the 7th Dan ranking, an outstanding achievement recognising his lifelong contribution to the teaching and practise of karate.
